HarborThread began as a place to document the kind of practical knowledge that gets passed between weavers at guild meetings and studio visits — information that's often scattered across out-of-print books, regional suppliers' newsletters, and word of mouth. The site collects that material into a consistent reference format, organized by loom type, fiber category, and technique.
The focus is Canada. Suppliers, fiber availability, and weaving traditions vary considerably by region, and much of the existing online content is written with American or European markets in mind. The articles here reflect sourcing realities across provinces, from wool producers in the Prairies to linen suppliers in Quebec.
